Fall in Michigan is absolute perfection. So this Midwest Lake wedding in Howell, Michigan was the best day. Weather- perfect, the location- stunning, the couple and their friends and family- doesn’t get any better. As your Sioux Falls Wedding Photographer, I love being able to travel other places in the Midwest for weddings. It is one of my absolute favorite things to do.

Stephanie and Lance had their wedding a Lance’s childhood home. It is this beautiful lake house, with a huge lawn where they had their ceremony under the large oak tree. Stephanie got ready in their home alongside her friend, family, and sweet dog Zoe.

The ceremony was under the family oak tree. It created a perfect backdrop to say, I do. Surrounded by their friends, family and their dog, it was the perfect intimate ceremony. After the ceremony, they headed to their reception where they hosted all the wedding traditions.

Lastly, as the sun went down they danced the night away with the calm lake as their backdrop. You couldn’t have asked for a better day. As a Michigander myself now turned Sioux Falls Photographer, it was perfection.

Are you planning a lakeside wedding?

Here are some tips!

• Know what time of the year will be best for you. If you don’t mind boats zooming by, summer would be perfect. Or if you want the lake quieter, pick spring or fall.
• Where is the lighting? Figuring out the lighting can be huge on your wedding day. No one wants to be blinded by the sun while trying to watch your first kiss or dance so take into account where things are set up.
• Never underestimate the bugs! Bug spray will be your best friend.
• Keep it simple and embrace the location. The backdrop of a lake is beautiful so you don’t have to do much more. Don’t feel the pressure to over-decorate.
